Atlanta Electric Street Railway Company

The Atlanta Electric Railway Company was founded by Dayton Hale, T.B. Felder, Luther Z. Rosser, and James W. English, Jr. in 1895. Dayton Hale served as president of Atlanta Electric Railway and the Lakewood Park Company. His company hoped to develop the site of the former city waterworks (Lakewood) into a pleasure resort (Carson 1982:33). Rosser would later serve as the lead defense in the historic trial of Leo Frank in 1913. English was involved in the early development of Atlanta’s electric trolley service with the Fulton County Street Railroad. Atlanta Electric’s route extended south from Ormond down Crew and Weyman to merge with Lakewood Avenue. The line terminated at Lakewood Park. Operation of the line was eventually taken over by Atlanta Consolidated by 1899.
