The Atlanta City Street Railway Company was chartered in 1892 by Aaron Haas and brothers W.I. Zachry and J.B. Zachry. Aaron Haas, a prominent businessman, served as Atlanta’s first mayor pro tempore in 1875. The first rout began along Central Street on May 24, 1893. Lines provided electrified service to East Lake and eventually on to the City of Decatur. In addition to East Lake, the holdings of the Kirkwood Land Company were boosted by the streetcar service, as well as a new subdivision called “Union Square,” later to be known as Chandler Park. The Atlanta City Street Railway Company was sold to Atlanta Traction Company on an unknown date. |
