History, Public Archaeology, and Site Interpretation
Americans
are fascinated by their history. Historic and cultural sites rank at or near
the top of virtually every state survey of tourist destinations. Our country
is blessed with a rich heritage made up of the history of many peoples, and
as each of us seeks to understand ourselves, we must begin in the past. New South
Associates is one of the pioneers in the development of public programs for
the interpretation and display of the American past. From the beginning, we
volunteered our time on the weekends to host open houses at our
archaeological sites, gave lectures to local historical societies and
exchange clubs, and prepared popular histories and brochures as a way of
spreading the word about the past. As our clients watched our efforts and
witnessed the positive public relations it generated, they joined us in
making the public part of the project. Whether
you work for an agency or a private firm or institution, history and
archaeology are important public resources whose story deserves to be told.
We can help by generating press releases; hosting site tours; providing
assistance in developing archaeological and historical remains into parks;
producing popular reports, brochures and videos; giving public lectures; or
developing exhibits and displays. We encourage our clients to make the
results of their cultural resource studies available to the public, and are
